Perfect In Him

“But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Colossians 1:22 NIV).

I am a great confessor – quick to point out my own shortcomings. I feel guilty often about so many things – not being able to earn an income; not keeping my home clean enough; not spending enough time in Scripture; feeling grumpy when my pain becomes unbearable; eating too much junk food – you name it, I can probably find a way to feel guilty about it!

Guilt and self-condemnation are a heavy weight to bear, but still I find it hard to overcome these negative emotions. Today, however, God made me aware of an important truth – as I harbor guilt, I am really also rejecting my salvation in Jesus Christ. I know Christ died for my sins and shortcomings, but it is only by truly accepting His forgiveness as my Savior that I am freed.

Colossians 1:22 tells us that through Christ’s death we are reconciled to God, being made holy, faultless and irreproachable. But it is only in truly accepting Christ’s salvation that we receive this perfection. I realize that if I continue to condemn myself about my shortcomings, I have, in a sense, not really accepted the redemption that Jesus died to give me.

If you’re feeling guilty today, give it to Christ and leave it with Him. But then truly receive His cleansing power! You are made perfect in Him. Don’t hold yourself back from your salvation.

Prayer: “Dear God, You know our shortcomings and know how badly we feel, not just physically, but emotionally. Take our guilt – we freely give it to You! We receive now Your forgiveness! Cleanse us, and make us perfect and holy, through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us not to continue to harbor these negative feelings, knowing that our sacrifice has been paid for once and for all time, through the blood of Jesus. Amen.”
